    3. Tips of AC Hipot:

    • Dielectric strength also test has been called AC Hipot,which is applying several times of rated voltage to the tested object between changed components and shell, and to test if there is a breakdown current or if the charged component has been grounded. The insulating material of tested object will suffer higher power than its rated voltage during the testing. Any of the insulation failure will cause breakdown current. The insulation failure could be existing in component or insulating materials.
    • There are three test methods of dielectric strength test: impulse, AC Hipot, DC withstand voltage test.
    • Impulse: impulse usually has been used to test the layer insulation of the winding. A transient voltage applied during the test, which usually raises rapidly to its peak and then slowly drops to zero.
    • DC high voltage: the DC high voltage test is similar to insulation resistance test, but the applied voltage could be higher and the test result is leakage current. For most of the tested object, insulation resistance is big because of the existing of distributed capacity. During DC testing, the real leakage current passed through the tested object will be measured after the distributed capacity been fully charged, therefore, the DC withstand voltage test can test the real leakage current accurately. Because the DC test is the single direction test, it can’t simulate the actual use if the tested object worked on AC power supply. And the DC test also can’t simulate the AC peak value which is 1.414 times of displayed value, so DC test usually uses a higher voltage.
    • AC Hipot: most of the electric products work on a AC power source, so the AC Hipot has been widely used in the testing to simulate the actual use of tested products.
